Blogging tips for business owners
Between building your client base, creating new services, and growing your audience online, you’ve probably been busy. But are potential clients or customers finding you online? Do you feel like they know who you are, what you offer, and where your expertise lies?
If not, you might want to consider blogging. We know — blogging seems so “2008,” but the truth is, blogging is still an amazing way to:
- Build trust with readers and audiences
- Establish yourself as an expert
- Strengthen your strategy for SEO (which helps people find you!)
- Establish your brand presence
Of course, we here at Styled Stock Society know that blogging can feel like adding one more thing to your never-ending to-do list. Fear not, though! We’re here to share five blogging tips for business owners to help get you started.
1. Create blog posts that answer questions
Don’t create blogs just for the sake of it; try to create content that’s helpful to your audiences, and that answers questions you know they have. Start coming up with topics and ideas by asking yourself a few questions, like:
- What is your target audience searching for?
- How can your products or services help them?
- What problems can you help them solve?
Pro tip: If you still need help getting started, conduct some research by sending out surveys to your current customers, clients, or followers. Ask what’s most helpful to them, what they’d like more help with, or what they’d like to learn about.
2. Create related blog posts
Creating related blog posts are a great way to keep readers on your site while enhancing your SEO. All you have to do is create links to other similar or relevant posts or product pages on your website. Don’t drive your entire blog strategy around this tip, though, as you don’t want to force content topics that don’t quite work for your brand or business. The more you write, the more you’ll see perfect (and subtle) ways to link to other posts.
Pro tip: A quick (and easy) way to execute this strategy is to create a blog series with several parts. Your readers will be curious to explore them all to ensure they’re not missing out on anything!
3. Organize your posts with categories + tags
The number one goal with categorizing and tagging your blogs is to help readers easily find what they’re looking for. If they can do that successfully, they’re more likely to engage with your content and, as a result, your entire website. Keep your categories fairly broad and high-level, then create tags for more specific topics. For example, if you’re sharing hot tips for using Pinterest, you might categorize your post as ‘Social Media’ and use the tag ‘Pinterest’ to more clearly define what the blog is about.
4. Stick to a regular blogging schedule
This is one of the hardest parts about blogging (trust us, we can relate), but it’s definitely one of the most important. Even if it’s just two posts a month, be sure to stick with it! More consistent content means more opportunities to showcase your expertise and build trust. Regular posting also helps with SEO, as “crawlers” will index any new blog content, increasing the odds that your site shows up in search. Of course, when your site shows up in search results, it gets people to click and visit your site. Need we say more?
